What is Calaloop?

Calaloop is a social calendar website where lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals who live in California counties (with populations under 800,000) can list and find events happening in their community.

Why was Calaloop started?

In the summer of 2009, we realized that it was becoming more difficult to meet other LGBTs face-to-face in the county where we live (Sonoma County, California). We knew there were events, social groups, and support groups in the community, but there was no central place where they were listed. So, we started Calaloop!

Why are the calendars only for California counties?

We decided to test the site in California because Calaloop is based in Sonoma County. As the site (and our staff) grows, we plan to add more counties and states.

Why are the calendars only for counties with populations under 800,000?

We started with smaller counties because we felt they had a greater need. Unlike large counties, counties with less than 800,000 people are less likely to have well defined LGBT communities, fewer LGBT social events, and therefore fewer opportunities for face-to-face social interactions.
